Let’s try to make things a little easier for everybody…

…by kicking the tiresome conventions of this process into touch.

If you would like to send us your writing (fiction, we‘re thinking, primarily, but, well, let’s see), we’ll read it and we’ll reply to let you know whether we’ll be publishing it or not.

We won’t keep you waiting very long and we won’t engage in the type of email blather that infuriates us all. Most likely, it will be a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. That’s better… right?

No hand-wringing ‘We loved your piece, but…’ No editing of pieces we like. No back and forth over the whys and wherefores. We won’t crow about how your work has lifted the drizzle from a grey day and we genuinely encourage you to follow suit in your response.

We’ve never felt comfortable when we see writers using the word ‘acceptance’ when they share news of a forthcoming publication. It hints at a strange form of gratitude, speaks to a power imbalance that we don’t particularly care for. Of course, your work is good, but ultimately it landed in the right place at the right time and that’s a bit of luck for both parties.

We will link to published pieces on Instagram, where we hope to build a nice following and a healthy discourse.

Your work will look beautiful on our website, rest assured.

It would be good if your work was formatted in straightforward fashion and sent to us in such a way that will allow us to easily copy it into our web software without having to faff. If it can be read in a browser easily enough then that’s all we have to say about length. (We’re not interested in flash fiction, so round about a thousand words minimum.)

We’re not at all concerned about whether your work has been available anywhere previously, who else you might be sending it to, or where it might one day end up.

We do not have a customer service department.

If you are on Instagram, please tell us when you write to us. We would like to publish a very brief, single sentence bio with your piece, because it would be nice to let people know who you are along with a couple of highlights if you have any.
